Budget Better with Cash!
Are you used to whipping out that convenient credit or debit card at the check-out counter?
Have you ever done a mental review and find yourself shocked at the grand total of your shopping receipts at the end of the day?
Yup, I’ve been there too.
It’s so easy, plastic feels different. And it’s so convenient.
Until it’s time to balance the checking account or pay the Visa bill.
Maybe it’s time to consider cash.
Especially for those budget categories that are easy to overspend.
Cash is just different. There is an emotional connection to cash that makes it harder to part with. Pulling out cash for selected budget categories can help you stay within your monthly limit. When you use a cash allowance for budget items such as eating out, you visually see what you have left for the month. You make different choices in order to spend withing your limits. In fact, you may find yourself saying no just to keep the cash in hand. It just feels good!
And if you keep your cash categories separate, you may decide to spend less one month in order to celebrate the next!
If you are struggling to spend less and hit some financial goals, try cash. Determine what categories you want to designate for cash. Withdraw the determined amounts monthly, or each payday. Get an envelope and give it a name. Now you have set the limit, it’s visual, and you will feel different pulling out cash, rather than just swiping the card.
